Kirchick V Ron Paul

This document has been created to respond to accusations made by Jamie Kirchick for The New Republic magazine by a group of grassroots supporters which would hope for Ron Paul to be the next President. While we aren't without our bias, we hope that this article will be taken as it is. A collection of references which show that Kirchick is extremely biased and is using his position at The New Republic to create doubt around Ron Paul leading into what could be his most important primary, but without backing that up with anything.

The accusations

While not clear, they allege that Ron Paul is racist and anti-semitic. He had originally said that they would release the information at midnight on the day of the New Hampshire primaries but this was put back until "afternoon". This sounds like a tactic to instill doubt in the candidate but to avoid their claims being addressed.

One of Ron Paul's own writings on racism calls it "an ugly form of collectivism" which is echoed on Ron Paul's own page on racism.

Update:

By Kirchick's own admissions: "Of course, with few bylines, it is difficult to know whether any particular article was written by Paul himself. Some of the earlier newsletters are signed by him, though the vast majority of the editions I saw contain no bylines at all. Complicating matters, many of the unbylined newsletters were written in the first-person, implying that Paul was the author" and the campaign already commented with Jesse Benton saying "He added that he was surprised to hear about the insults hurled at Martin Luther King, because "Ron thinks Martin Luther King is a hero." when contacted about the article. None of the newsletters were posted with the article. Ron Paul being on Alex Jone's show means absolutely nothing. He's also been on the Bill O'Reilly show. That doesn't make him a neoconservative/neoliberal/neo-anything.

Update:

I've just been informed Thomas DiLorenzo has added a further debunking to the the "neoconfederacy" angle of the article: http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/018418.html

Update:

Whoops, I removed the piece about Ron Paul accepting moral responsibility in 2001 for the previous writings made under his name.

Background on Jamie Kirchik

A writer for the New Republic and an assistant of Martin H.Peretz there is a litany of articles written about him which, in short, say he is a hack journalist. Here's a list:

Martin Peretz

Background: evidence of racism against muslims/arabs, which apparently is acceptable to Kirchick.

The New Republic.

The New Republic is a magazine owned by CanWest Global Communications. An enormous media conglomerate in Canada, which has even more media concentration than the US.

They have been actively opposed to their own journalists writing articles which are critical of Israeli policies. Ron Paul is one of the few candidates which believes that the constitution does not allow for funding of foreign governments and when he was in the past accused of wanting to remove funding for Israel he stated that Arab nations receive more funding than Israel, and under his leadership that would also be cut, so he can hardly be accused of being anti-semitic.

Two key points from Wikipedia's article on CanWest:

This is not the first time The New Republic has been controversial in its publications. Stephen Glass was fired from The New Republic after 27 of 41 stories he published were fake. "Martin Peretz later admitted that his wife told him that she found Glass' stories incredible and had stopped reading them. The New Republic, however, continued to stand behind their star young writer. Editor Michael Kelly fired off an angry letter to C.S.P.I. calling them liars and demanding they apologize to Glass."

The last word.

This is a damning article which shows that not only does Kirchick have a history of being a "muckraker, a charlatan, and a hypocrite", he timed this so it would come out for the NH primary as he had whatever information he has now a few weeks ago and that's he doing it because he enjoys "getting supporters of political candidates riled up" Kirchick lies for political reasons. The man seems to be a professional troll.
